a note from the curator
In January I had the opportunity to first meet with the artists of 9 Women, 9 Visions. I looked closely at their work, choosing pieces that spoke to me through color, line or intent. I listened to their stories of how each came to be an artist and what motivates them.
And I watched them interact with each other. They are a close-knit group who meet frequently to critique each others artwork and act as a support system for each others creative selves.
They are strong, each with their own struggles and own messages that become apparent through their artistic processes.
Each of these women’s artwork draws from a personal place, a place of contemplation relevant to their individual life and career.
A psychological moment of an abandoned space or object, extinction of a species once worked closely with, animals place in our society, archeological monuments, and erosion: either in landscape or the self.
While 9 Women, 9 Visions emphasizes each womans separate identity and vision as an artist---they together share a vision of social consciousness, survival and community.
