Arthur has been painting seriously since the 1960's, with the earliest painting in exhibit from 1970; Showing over 50 paintings in the exhibit, GarageGallery will be the first to show paintings from throughout his painting career. See samples of his work below Artist Statement It is clear Arthur’s interest in the absurd, humor, the wildly imaginative, can be seen in his art even before he began his studies at San Francisco's Academy of Art, from which he graduated with a BFA in 1978. His work has been mostly described as surreal, fantastic, visionary. Arthur’s work reflects his respect for a range of artists, from Edgar Allen Poe to Elvis Costello, from Delacroix to the outsider genre, from rock and roll to jazz and the classics.
